About the project INTER BIKE III
The INTER BIKE III project, co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme, promotes the development of cycling tourism in the cross-border area along the Adriabike (Kranjska Gora–Ravenna), D7 (Robič–Jelšane), and FVG3 (Pedemontana) cycling routes. The project achieves this by improving access to attractions along these routes through upgraded cycling infrastructure and by promoting the D7 and FVG3 routes. Best practices in cycling tourism development from Eastern Veneto are being transferred to new areas: the Brkini region (D7) and the valleys of the Ter and Nadiža (Natisone) rivers (FVG3). Three new multimodal bike transport connections have been established: two boat lines in Eastern Veneto and one road connection between the D7 and FVG3 routes. Best practices for public transport planning are also being transferred to the Coastal-Karst region.
Key Project Results:
- In the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica, new e-bikes for rental were purchased and new charging stations were installed. Rental bikes will also be available in Friuli.
- Two new boat lines for transporting cyclists will start operating in the Caorle Lagoon and along the Lemene River. For this purpose, the purchase of a boat is planned. The boat will also dock in the Municipality of Concordia Sagittaria, where a new footbridge has been built on the Lemene River. A bike rental station will be located nearby.
- In the summer of 2025, a new pilot van line for transporting cyclists between the Vipava Valley and Cividale del Friuli / the Valleys of the Torre and Nadiža Rivers will be introduced.
- A marketing concept for the long-distance cycling route Robič–Jelšane will be developed.
- The platform www.bike-alpeadria.eu will be upgraded.
- Training will be available for tourism providers.
- An analysis of public bus transport in the Coastal-Karst region and recommendations for improvement will be prepared.

About the project STARWAYS
The GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund is a tool financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021–2027 Programme, whose main objective is to support and promote cross-border territorial cooperation in the context of the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica – Gorizia 2025.
The EGTC GO manages the fund through a bottom-up approach by publishing calls for small projects, open to associations, enterprises, organisations, educational institutions and universities, as well as public and private bodies from the cross-border Programme area.
These small projects aim to “strengthen the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation”.
The STARWAYS project promotes sustainable and accessible tourism in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia. It enhances inland waterways and cycle paths, and promotes social inclusion and intergenerational exchange. The project aims to develop new tourist itineraries and improve existing ones in the Friuli Riviera Community and the Vipava Valley by integrating cycle paths and waterways in the Marano lagoon, as well as intermodal connections in the Vipacco Valley. Activities include mapping and analysing routes, trialling intermodal ‘Bike+Boat’ and ‘Bike+Bus’ services, engaging older people in collecting local memories and stories, and creating multimedia materials based on this content with the help of young people. Young cycle guides will also be trained to lead cycle tours and assist people with reduced mobility.
All information and routes will be accessible via the cross-border platform (www.bike-alpeadria.eu), which promotes integrated, slow, inclusive and environmentally friendly tourism.
